How to Best Hold the Guitar Controller on Guitar Hero and Rock Band
Use the hand position detailed below for holding the guitar controller in the Rock Band series and Guitar Hero series games. If you hold the controller this way, it will improve your performance and make you a better player at the game. If you use the index finger to cover the first two keys, you will become better and consistently hit more notes, rather than using your pinky finger to cover the last two keys.
Specifically, place your index finger on the second key (red) instead of on the first key (green). Then, place your middle finger on the third key (yellow). Next, place your ring finger on the fourth key (blue). Finally, place your pinky on the fifth key (orange).
With this hand position, use your index finger to cover the first two keys - red and green. Your other fingers can cover all other keys and your pinky will be much better off not having to cover two keys.
This hand position will take your game up a notch. As you get used to this and play more and more on expert level, you will eventually need to slide you hand position in and out of this one to others to hit certain note sequences. However, this hand position will get you started down that path and will make you better immediately if you stick with it.
