How to Draw a Golf Ball

Hitting a draw shot in golf will allow you to work the ball around obstacles such as trees or to cut doglegs. The shot may also provide additional distance on drives with the added top spin. A properly hit draw will curve from right to left.

Pick a target that is right of where you ultimately desire the ball to land.

Address the ball with your normal stance and grip toward the target you selected on the right.

While maintaining your stance, align your club face to aim where you desire the ball to land. Hence, your club face will be closed for the stance you are in.

Take your normal swing just as if you are hitting the ball toward the target you picked on the right. The ball should start to the right at your target and then curve back to the left where you desire the ball to land.

If you are left-handed, these instructions should be reversed, and you should pick a target that is left of the flag initially.  A left-hander’s draw will curve from left to right.
