How to Hit a Flop Shot or Lob Shot in Golf

A flop shot or lob shot is a high shot that will land softly on the green. It is a critical shot in golf that is needed when you have a tight shot and are unable to play a bump-and-run shot. Follow these steps to hitting successful flop shots.

Address the ball with it being placed in the middle to the back of your stance.

Open up your stance so that you are aiming at a place left of the flag stick.

Align the club-face of your lob wedge so that it is aligned perpendicular to the hole so that it is aiming toward the flag.

When swinging, swing as if you are using only your shoulders, arms and wrists to complete the swing. You do not need to consciously use and hip or leg action for the shot; let those parts of your body act naturally as you focus on your shoulders, arms and wrists.

When you swing the club, swing along the path that is parallel to your feet, which should be a spot left of your target.

With the open club-face pointed at the target, when struck, the ball should come out high toward the target and should land softly with backspin.
