Staph infection is caused by bacteria and may range from a mild illness to even a fatal infection. Follow the steps below to help determine whether you may have staph infection.

Determine whether you have a localized collection of pus (known as an abscess or boil) around your wound or cut.

The affected area may be red, swollen and/or painful.
