How to Putt in Golf Like a Pro
Putting in golf is one of the most important skills that will shave strokes off your golf game. Follow the steps below to learn how to putt more effectively in golf.
Take a step back and duck down to read the contours and undulations on the green.
Walk around the back of the hole to get another view of the breaks on the green.
Based upon your read of the green, pick a target near the hole that you believe is the place you need to aim for the ball to roll into the hole.
Imagine a straight line from your ball to the target you have selected, and then choose a spot from two to five feet in front of you along that line to use as your aiming point with your putter.
Take some practice strokes to simulate hitting the putt through this target point with just enough force to make it to the cup.
After your practice strokes, address the ball making sure your eyes are directly over the ball.
Align you putter face so that it is precisely perpendicular to the target you have chosen. Also, align your feet with your chosen target.
Once you are set up, strike the ball smoothly just like your practice swing.
